*opens trench coat and several anime drawing fall out*

So yeah these are my characters from a story that may never be published... XD BUT DONT WORRY ABOUT THAT

Azoth

Azoth is a young woman with memory loss and a powerful curse. She has no concept of her past, and therefore no leads on how to solve her problem. Despite this, Azoth is bizarrely cool headed. No matter the situation, Azoth will act as though she's just an observer. She regards much of her own problems as trivial, or as something she heard second hand rather than a real event that she is being subjected to. This distance from her own feelings only applies to herself, as when it comes to others, she is much more understanding and kind. She has a empathetic heart and feels that she can figure out most people, leading her to throw herself into dangerous situations because, as she says, "If I were them, I'd want someone to help me.". Azoth is very sweet and playful, but she can come across as arrogant. She's also very good at reading people, down to their facial expressions. She's very confident in this ability, so when she's tricked, it's something she takes extremely personally.

"Mortis"

Mortis is a "mercenary" for hire living on the outskirts of the law and is technically wanted by the state. He lives with his Aunt Thelma and half brother Ignis, the latter being extremely sick. Mortis constantly throws himself into his work to pay for medicine, or anything that will extend Ignis' life(even if this is delusional). Despite a general dislike for violence, he puts his own wants to the side for the sake of the largest paycheck. He may appear cold, but he's very soft hearted, especially when it comes to the people he cares about. Oftentimes, he may make a snap judgement based on an emotional reaction that he'll immediately regret and obsess over. Because of his deeply paranoid nature, Mortis is willing to make tough decisions and moral sacrifices for what he believes to be the safest outcome. And yet, in a desperate and smothered part of him, Mortis wants to be a hero.

Thelma

Thelma is Mortis' aunt and Ignis' mother. While Ignis lay dying, she tends to him and tries to make him as comfortable as possible. She is nurturing to a fault, almost overbearing in a way. While she desperately wants her son to survive, she's not ignorant to the futility of the situation. It has left her rather frustrated with Mortis' almost delusional actions, and the two frequently fight. She is desperate for something to take care of, and for that care to result in a positive outcome. She has become rather abrasive as a front.

Ignis

Ignis is Mortis' little brother. The illness he has is difficult to cure, but not unknown or uncommon. Because of their lack of access to proper healthcare, Ignis will likely pass away. On days he feels healthier, Ignis is a mischevious kid who loves to run around and explore, often getting himself into trouble. He's smart, and while he couldn't care less about his education, he loves to learn- mostly about cool things, like why explosions happen.

Mielle

Mielle is hiding from the law after trying to break into a forbidden part of the royal library. She's extremely interested in runes, magic, and how it all connects back to the land itself. Now, forced to work off of miniscule resources, Mielle can't exactly study in the way she wants to. But she makes do, always with a sunny smile on her face. She's bubbly, kind, and very friendly, almost to the point of coming off as strange to some. Staying in a "town" with other people far removed from the government, many have come to rely on her unconventional methods. Fun fact: she is Mortis' only friend before chapter one.

Dr. Nikola Semes

Nikola, or more commonly referred to as Dr. Semes, is the only doctor in "town". On the run from the government for trying to sneak people into Alkahest for higher levels of medical treatment, Nikola is laying low until the full force of the law comes off her. In the meantime, she's fine with helping people on the outskirts of the law and society. She's stern, firm, and difficult to argue with. Nikola will do whatever she can to help you, as long as you pay. She will absolutely give you shit for it. Despite her gruff demeanor, she does care about other people.

King Heinrich

The King. He comes from a long line of popular monarchs with extremely similar ideals. He's said to be good and just, just as all previous monarchs were, and will be. But, like all Ushirian monarchs, he is doomed to die before his sixties and be succeeded by his child. Heinrich's popularity has been waning as of late due to some hasty decisions he made six years prior. His health is also on the decline, much earlier than expected.

Princess Galena

King Heinrich's one and only daughter (as is tradition in the royal family), Galena is a social butterfly. She's a popular political figure in Alkahest, despite only being seventeen years old. Some say she's more popular than her father, mainly due to her not being in power yet. Galena is elegant, social, and suprisingly easy to irritate. She has a bit of a temper, ESPECIALLY when her father is mentioned. There are several rumors going around that they don't get along.

??????

A lot of people have been saying that they can smell something dead nearby.
